The Horrors of Zoom

The year is 2020.

The world has been hit by a new disease unlike any we’ve seen before.

Months pass and the pandemic hits hard.

People forced to social distance. Confined to their homes. Unable to communicate with their friends, families, neighbors, coworkers, etc.

New forms of communications are created. The newest and latest craze in the communication world? Zoom….

A video chat in the vein of Facetime.

Now, a new medium for communication. Doctors appointments, business meetings, classroom learning, even government functions.

But how does it affect Hollywood?

Enter Host, a horror film based entirely on the Zoom app.

A group of six friends get together on the video conference call platform and, with the help of a medium who — of course — loses her internet connection early on, they call up the spirits.

A global pandemic forcing a changing film industry to adapt to the times, using new and innovative mediums to produce projects and films.

And while this pandemic rages on and more become affected by it, this form of medium will continue to dominate the globe and continue to be a factor in the film industry. As if films weren’t enough, even the awards shows made their mark on the Zoom spectrum.

Host is just the first of many projects that are sure to take the Zoom route when it comes to film production and only time will tell if Zoom films are flash-in-the-pan or if it will become a new norm in filmmaking just as found footage did back in 1999.
